cheap wigs have their place

You can buy a wig down Smith Street for 10 bucks...... It will be plastic as hell and probably fairy floss pink. Usually this type of wig is reserved for kids parties, hens nights and cross-dressing teenage boys at high school events.
Vogue Russia, April 2010 changed all this.
Photographer Steven Meisel captures Naomi Campbell in dominatrix cabaret style. The wigs are integral to the shoot. The cheap and nasty fixed shapes tell a story of a woman in her fantasy alter ego. Naomi is playing out the role of a glamorous and seductive call girl.
Make sure if you ever use these types of cheap and cheerful wigs they are worn by completely SHIT-HOT models, otherwise..............(eyes closed and shake head)

Eliza Cummings.....If Only

Its every hairdressers dream that you come back from lunch (can of coke and 3 fags) and discover the client waiting in your chair is the perfect hair model. The type of girl that will cream the competition and win you gold at the Hair Olympics.
Eliza Cummings is that type of girl.
Eliza started modelling under the alias Eliza Presley (because many likened her tomboy look to Elvis). Her mother removed her from high school aged 14 because of school yard bullying, showed some pictures of Eliza to her lecturer at London College of Fashion, marched her into Select modelling agency and the rest is history.....well history full of hard work, sweat and tears I'm sure.
Eliza is confident and at one with her body, posing nude and without makeup in many of her shots.
If only she would walk past me in the street and let me jot down her number!!
Oh she has a model boyfriend called Luke Stevens and is obsessed entirely with Penguins....I'm not even joking.

WINNER

V Magazine: The New York Issue #67

Holy Moly Agyness Deyn has topped the charts in the shit-hot department with this shoot. Photographed by Alasdair Mclellan and styled by Beat Bolliger for the upcoming V Magazine.
Agness spews out German Sinead O'Connor girl crush from her entire being.

"SAINT MARK'S PLACE"
The Secret of Downtown Style? Anything Goes when the Attitude is right. If these East Village Denizens look right at home in their magpie mix of knits, mesh, denim and velvet, It's because they are.

Agyness is certainly flying the flag for all those woman interested in shaving their head this summer. But be realistic........if you find your hair is always collapsing in a paddy at the back of your head leaving you feeling misshaped and chromosome deficient; a shaved head will only emphasize the harsh reality that you probably have a shit shaped head.

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare.............

Maid Mariam

I first met Mariam like this:

I arrived at a photoshoot for Model Behaviour, a modelling school that was the brainchild of Sarita Stella and Danielle Atkins. Myself and a fellow Biba hairdressing instructor walked into the studio to be faced by two young fresh faced girls. The two girls were setting up and organizing the models. I asked what there names were and where they were from.......I was quite bluntly informed by a little dark haired powerhouse that "We are from Biba, I'm Mariam, this is Esther, and WE are here to do the hair!".

Umpteen years later Mariam has worked her way through the ranks of the company and is successfully running Clifton Hill Biba.
Last month Mariam won the Loreal Colour Trophy along side Frank Apostolopoulos and was announced as a state finalists for Wella Trend Vision 2010. Mariam has entered and won many Industry hair comps, featured in numerous publications, was Hairdresser of the month via online websites and has more talent in her little finger than most could conjure in a lifetime of hairdressing.

Mariam Enegd is a rising star to watch out for and a top notch hairdresser if you need a fresh DO. You can find her at Clifton Hill Biba, 282 Queens Parade ph: 94897407

Back to my story.........that day i met Mariam all those years ago, she could have done the photoshoot herself!

SEPTEMBER is near

Well Magazine geeks September is nearly here. Its your bible month of super fat magazines to pour over and dog tag....cover in coffee and kick around at the bottom of your toilet for the rest of the year. The covers have just been released O/S and there are a few hit and misses I'd say.

UK Elle have chosen Emily Blunt for their supermag cover shot. This shot instantly screams 'get this piece of hair out of my mouth.' Matthias Vriens-McGrath Photographed The devil wears Prada actress in Valentino lace. Its an incredibly seductive shoot but all i can hear is my old Boss, Paul Divitaris screaming...."Lyndal, theres hair in her eyes!". Fair enough if it was I-D Magazine?

Vanity Fair have opted for the one and only Lady Gaga as their cover girl. Nick Knight shot the singer/all round posser and i think its pretty great.
It's a bit..... Lady Gaga all loved up at Woodstock, washed over in an albino, disney Little Mermaid type shoot.
Her middle part is really cool along with her fleshy nail colour. I wonder how many people will take this into their salon and request "Gaga Ice Blonde?" I know i will........
