combat clip marks

Whether your preparing for a competition, a fashion show, a night at cherry, a friends birthday, a new years eve pool party, an Alexander Wang photoshoot, the Masterchef finale or your wedding day, you dont want clip marks in your hair. Grab a tissue and place it under the clip.........derrrrrrrr

Tom=Raven=Cool

Tom Ford Eyewear hits a home run again with its Fall 2010 campaign.
Photographed by Tom Ford himself the collection is quirky and cool. The female Freya Beha Erichsen has the coolest hair I've seen all week. I totally love bouncy fringes with curly shoulder length hair. Its a crime to straighten a fringe and leave the rest curly, punishment should be death! The rich chocolate mousse hair colour is also stunning.
The guy is actor Nicholas Hoult. Nick has simple boy/man hair....GREAT. The ravens dont necessarily have cool hair, but whatever.
Hot rollers to achieve this, no GHD's....it will end up deb/flower girl naff.

I say go green

I get asked on a daily basis, "Lyndal, if you could do anything with my hair, what would you do?"
This question is probably common as I'm indeed a Hairdresser by trade.
What struck me funny is that the last 4 out of 5 times i've been asked this question, I've given the same response.

"Well i think you you should bleach the ends and dye it green!"
"It makes so much sense."

Drag out your old jeans with the blow out on the ass, ask your boyfriend if you can borrow his pavement t-shirt, pierce your own nose then head to the salon for my hot tip of the week.

Rokk Ebony call it teased foils, i call it samosas (basically because i fold it into a triangle to stop it slipping out)....call it what you want, but call it HOT.

Maybe next week I'll suggest watermelon?

Megan Fox wins bob of the week

Megan Fox no-longer only warms the blood of teenage comic nerd boys. Megan's latest shoot in Interview is saucy to the extreme. The shoot plays out with Megan lounging around an apartment with a naked doppellganger mannequin. The shiny black bob is stunning and definitely squashes any 'teenage girl that got away' transformer fantasy you once had of this Hollywood siren.
The interview that accompanies this photo shoot is by comedian and actor Zak Galafianakis (The Hangover), its the first encounter the two have ever had and its rawness and lack of Vaseline lensing is well worth a read.
Its very hard to beat a straight up black bob. Congratulations Megan, you win Bob of the Week!

Apparently at the end of the photo shoot Megan asked is she could take the mannequin head that had been made as a replica of her own as a souvenir. She tossed it in a shopping bag and went on her way.

Clash of the supers

Two power house supermodels will feature in next months issue of I-D magazine. Nick Knight has captured the good girl v's bad girl Snow White shoot. Heres a sneak peak of Kate with a waist length pony tail.........

The shoot has Naomi Campbell as the ethereal angel and Kate Moss in latex as a harder edge Disney queen. Sounds Gold to me. Cant wait!

YSL 2010 hair

Julien d'YS is a man with serious vision. He has conquered nearly every major magazine, worked with all major designers and collaborates frequently with the likes of Annie Leibovitz. The Hair he produced for the YSL 2010 collection this year quickly caught my attention, its not bobby pins, which many may know i have a serious problem with......its the zigzaggy stretching things that pull all the hair to your head.
What is there real name?
Anyway, I like this. I'll put some of my old bobby pin shots up too. Those that didn't know i had a problem now do.

BERGOFF GOODMAN 2010 catalogue

Its 80's, shes stunning, the product is ok.
But Looking at Bergoff Goodmans Pre Fall 2010 Catalogue makes me exhausted. Every shot is over worked to the point of being dead. The Hairs too tizzy and at times disproportionate to her body. If this was Womens Weekly i would label this 'MISS'.

Times they are a changing

Gone are the days of finding a hot girl on the street, convincing her to let you cut and colour her hair, snapping her from the shoulders up.......... and winning gold.
Hair fashion has changed dramatically in the last 10 years, or perhaps its taken me this long to reach the top.
The concept that a hairdresser can replicate their photograph is becoming rare. The reason being proffesional models are wearing expensive high quality wigs, retouching graphos are more skilled at photoshop that ever before and in some cases, shoots are produced not by one hairdressser, but by a creative team.
Don't get me wrong i'm not having a rant, its just worth a mention that Australia's Hairdresser of the year 2010 was won by a colourist who produced a black and white collection? (No disrespect Shane) and Model Ruby Grose was used in 4 different shots by 3 different Hair Expo Finalists? (Ruby how do you grow your hair from cropped blonde, to bob brown to waist length in the span of a month)
The shift in Australia away from stiff headshots to stunning fashion photography has boosted the profile of the humble Hairdresser. Photographers, Stylist, makeup artists and models need to be current and credible. However, this all comes at a cost. How does a smalltime salon stand a chance against a million dollar giant like Toni and Guy?
No room for amateurs, pictures of your Aunty, shots taken in your bathroom and above all BAD HAIR.

Eva come clean my house

Eva Herzigova may be pushing 40, but unlike many of the ladies i saw pushing trolleys at the southland coles today, she is smoking hot. Her latest shoot in Italian Vogue, which is shot by Glen Luchford, captures Eva sexing up mundane household chores. The length of the blonde bob is terrific, a little longer than Anna Wintour and a little cleaner than Blondie.
Like I said earlier.....Eva come clean my house.

I cant believe its not Braiding

Braids don't need to be a clean and difficult process. Alexander Wang and Miu Miu both used heavy, long braided side ponys in their Spring 2010 collections. The Braids are raw and loose. Its so simple to dress up a simple plait by gently tugging at the sides of each turn. If I had hair, today I would braid it.

Braids, plaits and cornrows. This Vogue shot definitely has all the hair-up classic techniques covered. My favourite part is the distressed fishbraid mounded into a heavy quiff.

This is shoot I styled for Fashion Journal. It was fabulous. After a night of no sleep and too much party I braided these two girls together. The result still makes me smile. Models weren't too thrilled about there predicament.....

I HEART ALICE

Yes i know i should be over this.
Yes i watched the devil wears Prada and am aware that if this style has reached our shores and suburbs then its been done and done.
Yes the 90's have made their way into supre.
Yes if your sister who is 10years younger, buffer and perkier than you has it, you shouldn't even bother.
And Yes, If you have a 4 month old baby who is grabbing onto everything, you shouldnt spend 400 bucks on second hand hair thats been shaved in the name of religion and sold in the name of Dolce&Gabbana pony shoes.

But Alice your so cool.

And the winner is...

Last nights Hair Expo Awards held in Sydney announced their man of the year Shane Henning.
Shane has had a long prestigious career spanning decades. Shane was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2008. When presented with this accolade he said "It was a total shock....but I've still got more i want to do". Last night showed the man wasn't lying. I believe this is his 5th Hairdresser of the Year Award, a truly remarkable achievement.
Shane's collection this year was beautiful. I loved the mash of pure clean beauty with the smoke and allure of James Boags.

Congratulation Shane.....
